I’ve spent most of my twenties convinced I could outrun time. Schedule every hour, multitask like my life depends on it, exist in seventeen tabs at once. Then my grandmother died on a random Tuesday and I realized I couldn’t remember the last time I actually looked at her face instead of through a phone screen while texting someone else. That’s the thing about presence—we treat it like a luxury when it’s actually the only thing we have. Wunder Beta gets it. ‘Live In The Now’ is what happens when someone loses someone and decides to stop performing life and actually live it.
The track opens with this bossa nova-kissed groove that feels like Rio sunlight on your face at golden hour, and I need you to understand—the production hits hard. Electronic pulses underneath that are warm enough to make your whole body relax. Wunder Beta’s vocals come in and it’s this combination of urgent and surrendered that shouldn’t work but absolutely does. When she sings Life is brittle / We’re in the middle / Making sense of it all, I literally had to stop what I was doing. Those three lines just said what we’re all too scared to admit: we have no idea what we’re doing and we’re running out of time to figure it out.
She wrote this after losing someone unexpectedly. Someone just… gone. And she explains, “In a world where we’re constantly anxious and multitasking, presence feels like a radical act. The moment you are in right now? That’s everything.” We’re out here optimizing our calendars and color-coding our Google docs while life is just happening and ending and we’re missing it. Take this moment / With eyes wide open / Time is your token, not a stone—your time gets spent whether you’re paying attention or not. That’s the goddamn point.

Here’s where it gets me: the production shouldn’t work. Bossa nova rhythms meeting electronic beats meeting alt-pop? That’s a mess on paper. But Wunder Beta spent years building award-winning games, understanding how to create entire worlds that pull you in. She grew up in Rio, moved to London on a lost bet without speaking English, built a BAFTA-winning company, landed on Forbes’ Top 50 Women in Tech. And then looked around at all that success and felt… empty. Disconnected. So she walked away from the top to start over in music. That’s the energy in this track—someone who achieved everything and realized none of it matters if you’re not actually present for your own life.
The way she sings So hug me tonight / Don’t tell me goodbye / I want to freeze the time until we die—calm, certain—makes something tighten in your chest. She’s stating facts. This moment is all we get.
When Touch the sunshine / Feel the moonlight / Realise we’re so small hits, the production opens up into this cosmic shimmer and suddenly you feel it—how small you are in the scheme of things, how temporary all of this is. She wanted this final track on her Love You To Beats project to feel like “the sky opening, your chest rising, the future and past melting into one hug.” And it does. I’m not being dramatic—this track physically changes how you’re breathing.
The lyrics Life is fickle / The hardest riddle / We’re not here for long at all cut through any bullshit positive thinking, any “everything happens for a reason.” Life is confusing and short and we’re all winging it. The bridge drops into We have it all today / The light, the dark and grey / We have it all today / Our shadows and our rays, and that’s what gets me. She’s saying be present for the messy, the grey, the shadows—all of it, because it’s all temporary.

This is what happens when someone actually looks at mortality and decides to build moments instead of empires. The bossa nova rhythm keeps you grounded while the electronic elements lift you up, and her vocals guide you through with the authority of someone who’s done the work and knows what matters now.
She repeats Live in the now / Look up to the skies / Step into your soul / And reach new heights and it works like an invitation to stop multitasking through your own life and missing it. To actually feel the sunshine instead of just acknowledging it exists while scrolling. To freeze time by being present enough to experience it.
This track wrecked me and I’m not sorry about it. Stream it and actually listen. Just you and this track reminding you that this moment is all you’ve got.
