‘Under My Skin’ by Temptress Is Lust as Addiction

Under My Skin’ by Temptress pulls me back to those nights that linger long after the lights come up. The bass is heavy, the room thick with heat, and I’m holding a glass that keeps sweating down my wrist while he leans in closer than he should. That’s the danger Temptress bottles—the rush of wanting someone even when you know exactly how the story ends. He’s under your skin before you know it, which makes his hand sliding under your skirt feel inevitable. You don’t resist, you let it happen, and you already know you’ll press play again on this track tomorrow just to feel it all over.

Temptress are Jessi and Vlad, the London duo who’ve been twisting R&B and UK dance into their own language since ‘Lies’, their debut that Ross From Friends later remixed. They’ve got pedigree—support from FADER, i-D, Complex, BBC Radio, and Spotify’s Soultronic playlists, and their Body EP crowned Number One by Jamz Supernova on BBC Radio 1Xtra. They write, produce, and direct everything themselves, and you hear it.

The song itself opens with this obsessive rhythm. “I’ve been counting seconds / We could kill some time / I’m addicted to you wasting mine.” That’s the kind of line you whisper when you know it’s toxic, but the body still says yes. Addiction doesn’t always look like white powder on glass—it can be the way someone kisses you and keeps you hooked. I’ve been there, wide awake at 3 a.m., scrolling, replaying, promising myself I’d quit him tomorrow.

That obsession deepens with every line. “I just need another hit / Commit a harmless crime.” It’s the language of someone who knows it’s bad for them and leans in anyway, calling it harmless just to get through the night. When she admits “Tastes so bittersweet / I had to bite my tongue / I know you’re looking out for number one”, it’s self-aware but still giving into your craving’s come-hither glance.

The repetition makes it hit harder. Every time the hook comes back—“Under my skin, oh yeah”—it’s another relapse, another text you swore you wouldn’t send. The cycle is seductive, a loop you don’t want to break. Temptress traps you in that spiral, layering the harmonies until the chorus feels less like music and more like muscle memory.

The chorus feels like a hand at your waist, pulling you closer to his body until you stop pretending you don’t want it. “Got you under my skin, oh yeah / Under my skin, oh yeah.” It’s not sweet. It’s invasive, like someone who doesn’t ask permission, just slides in deeper. When Jessi sings “If I don’t go I’m afraid I might / Let you lay down where you did that night”, the ache is physical. I can see the sheets, twisted from last time, still smelling like him. It’s sex as relapse, craving the body that feeds your addiction.

What we have here is a UK dance undercurrent with bass that belongs in a basement club at 2 a.m. It’s too dark for champagne bubbles, too sticky for pop gloss. It sits closer to electronic soul, bodies pressed together and anxious to take that private dancefloor party to the bedroom. That’s the genius here: Temptress doesn’t just write about temptation, they engineer it to make you do what you love. And they do it in a city already wired for temptation.

‘Under My Skin’ doesn’t let go easy. It lingers, like a bruise you keep pressing just to remember the night.
