Remember when I wrote about ‘Burst’? The attitude, the swagger—it felt like Coupdekat was pulling us straight into her chaos. She’s back now with ‘ACHE!’, a track that comes at you raw, sharp, and unafraid to leave a mark. It also opens the door to her fourth EP, ‘BLOW HER UP AND SHE’LL BURST!’, setting the tone for a project that promises just as much chaos as confession.
Coupdekat herself said, “2024 really punched me in the face. I felt exhausted and disillusioned with the music industry—and with London itself. ‘ACHE’ is that internal wrestling match of living in a big city with big dreams, but constantly feeling small.” You hear that exhaustion bleed through every corner of this track. It’s electro-pop with sharp edges, built to sting the way the city does when it’s chewing you up and spitting you out.

From the first lines—“Small town / Big headphones / Cool girl / Undercover”—she sets the scene like we’ve all lived it. You leave home with oversized dreams and nothing but music blasting in your ears to remind you who you are. Then she snaps, “Big bite of society, huh?” like she’s mocking the same world she’s trying to break into. I’ve felt that—the city promising everything but handing you cracked phone screens, late rent, and mornings that already ache before you’ve even left the house.
It plays like a drunk stumble through contradictions, every line swerving between bravado and collapse. “Coffee hot / No sugar / I bite my thumb / In quotations, baby.” It’s messy, horny, angry. I hear “Hardcopy / Limp Bizkit / Life’s fun / No it isn’t” and it’s like she’s swiping through moods the way we swipe through hookups—half ironic, half desperate, never quite satisfied.
The chorus is pure release. “And it’s gonna ache / Uh huh, uh huh, uh huh / And it’s gonna hurt really bad.” That line hits like waking up still wired at 4 AM, makeup smudged, chest tight from too many vodka Red Bulls and too many bad decisions. You know the ache’s coming, you welcome it, you almost fuck yourself into it. By the time she spits, “And it’s gonna hurt like a bitch,” the song’s less about heartbreak and more about the masochism of city living—chasing highs that burn you out, craving love that chews you raw, fucking through the loneliness just to feel something.
It helps that she’s pulling from chaotic influences like Basement Jaxx and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs with producer Mattu. The track is loud, jagged, restless—like London on a Friday night when every tube stop feels like another trap you might never crawl out of.

Coupdekat’s story always adds weight to her sound. Kat started writing at 15, but it wasn’t until lockdown that she carved out her solo project. She was raised on a mix of 80s indie and Irish folk and has built a sound that pulls from everywhere. We’re talking Lily Allen’s bite, Blondie’s cool, The Cure’s gloom, Frou Frou’s intimacy, even touches of BENEE and underscores. That genre-fluidity is what makes ‘ACHE!’ feel so alive. You can’t pin it down, because you can’t pin her down.
The outro pounds harder, almost delirious. “It’s gonna hurt, it’s gonna blow your speakers / It’s gonna hurt, it’s gonna punch you in the face.” That’s sex, that’s heartbreak, that’s London when it’s already 6 AM and you know you’re still three hours from crashing. She doesn’t dress it up. She tells you straight: “It’s gonna hurt, yer it’s gonna…” and she leaves it dangling like an unfinished thought. That ache doesn’t go away.
Listening to this one feels like letting yourself unravel in public, mascara smeared, voice hoarse from screaming in a basement club. It hurts, and she makes it sound fucking addictive.
