My therapist asked me last week why I apologize so much for wanting things. Basic shit, too. Wanting a text back. Wanting plans that actually happen. Wanting someone to give a damn whether I’m breathing. I sat there in her office, expensive ass throw pillows everywhere, and realized I’ve spent years performing Low Maintenance Girl because somewhere along the line we all got the memo that needing anything makes you crazy. Unhinged. Too much. Meanwhile I’m scrolling at 2am wondering if double texting makes me desperate or just someone who knows what the fuck she wants. I walked out of that session, got in my car, and Teanna Bianca’s ‘Needy’ came on shuffle. First line hit and I actually laughed out loud because finally, someone made a whole damn song about refusing to play it cool when you’re absolutely not cool.
The track opens with Teanna in her room doing what we’ve all done a thousand times. “Sitting up in my room, wondering what to do / hours pass me by, you’re the only thing on my mind.” Hours. Plural. Just sitting there thinking about one person like it’s a full-time job. She’s honest about being stuck on him while the rest of us manifest abundance or whatever bullshit we’re supposed to be doing. Time dissolves around that feeling. The production here is smooth R&B with this playful 100 BPM groove that makes vulnerability feel like something you can dance to instead of something you need to hide.
Then comes the part that slayed me. “ Scrolling through my phone, hoping you’ll call my line / trying to play it cool, but my heart won’t fall in line. ” God forbid women have pattern recognition. We’re all out here scrolling and pretending we’re busy when we’re literally just waiting. Teanna admits she’s trying to play it cool and failing spectacularly. Her heart has other plans. That disconnect between what you know you should do and what you’re actually feeling? She just said what every girl is too scared to admit out loud.

The chorus is where Teanna goes full surrender. ” I’m feeling needy / ’cause I’m needing you, baby / I’m feeling needy / ’cause I’m needing you, baby. “ There’s no shame and no ‘just kidding I’m actually super independent.’ She admits she needs him and she’s done pretending otherwise. The way she stretches out “needy” over the beat makes it sound almost decadent like she’s tasting the word and deciding it’s delicious. This is “I ain’t too proud to beg” energy for 2026. TLC already told us back in the 90s they weren’t too proud to beg for something they call their own. Teanna’s doing the same damn thing, just with 2026 production and zero apologies.
Look, Teanna Bianca is a singer-songwriter from south London who’s been marinating in 90s R&B and dancehall since she was a kid. She literally calls her sound Tropical R&B, which honestly explains why this track feels like sunshine hitting you while you’re having a feelings breakdown. She started performing at ten years old, opening for UK artists like 3 of a kind, and she’s played venues from the O2 Brixton Academy to BBC Radio London. She recently joined up with DJ Kae to host the Luc Belaire showcase on Flex 101.4FM every Saturday afternoon. The woman knows her way around a groove and she knows how to make confession sound like confidence.
The second verse gets even more specific about the spiral. “Every little thought brings me right back to you / try to shake it off but nothing else feels true.” Every. Little. Thought. You’re trying to focus on literally anything else and your brain just keeps redirecting your ass back to him like a fucked up GPS that only knows one destination. Teanna’s not even fighting it anymore. She tried to shake it off and discovered that everything else feels like bullshit in comparison.
Then she hits us with the most devastating admission. “Laying in the dark wishing you were here tonight / if loving you’s a flaw then I don’t wanna get it right.” Pause. That line deserves a cigarette and a standing ovation. Maybe wanting him this much isn’t something that needs fixing. Maybe the flaw is pretending you don’t feel what you feel. Teanna’s delivery here is so matter-of-fact, like she’s already made peace with being the girl who wants more and decided that’s actually the flex.

The production throughout this whole track is doing serious work. It’s got that jumpy, playful energy that makes you want to move even when you’re processing feelings you usually cry about in the shower. The 100 BPM groove means you can dance this out at a pregame or blast it in your car after a therapy session that wrecked you. Teanna’s vocals slide over the beat with this effortless confidence that makes neediness sound sexy as hell instead of sad. She’s stating facts. She needs you. Deal with it.
Real talk, we’ve been conditioned to perform detachment. Act like you don’t care, wait three days to text back, never admit you’re thinking about him, never show your cards first. The whole ass game is designed to make sure nobody ever knows they matter to you until they’ve already decided you matter to them. It’s exhausting. Teanna’s saying fuck that entire system. She’s sitting in her room, scrolling through her phone, feeling everything, and turning it into a track that makes vulnerability sound powerful.
I went back to therapy this week and told her I’ve stopped apologizing for wanting things. Told her I texted him first, told her I said what I actually felt instead of waiting for him to feel it first, told her it scared the shit out of me and I did it anyway. She smiled and said that’s growth. I played her ‘Needy’ on my phone right there in her office. She nodded through the whole thing and said “that’s exactly what I’ve been trying to tell you.” Teanna Bianca took the thing we’re all supposed to hide and made it into something you can blast with the windows down. Being needy isn’t the problem. Pretending you’re not is.
