Songs about healthy love make me more uncomfortable than breakup music does, and I think that says everything about the last several years of my life. Heartbreak music is easy. You know where to put it. But TALI’s “(Senti)mental” is a little harder to sit with because it asks you to recognize something you may not have had much practice with, and I heard it for the first time this week and my whole ass nervous system had a moment. She wrote down the feeling of finally falling for someone who’s actually good to you, that disorienting, almost overwhelming rush you cannot act cool through no matter how hard you try. She packed all of that into a Motown-soaked alt-pop track with a groovy bassline and a sax solo that does serious things to a listener, and then had the nerve to make it completely danceable, and I’ve been a little unwell about it since.
The song opens right where the feeling lives. TALI comes in singing “slow down for a minute / i need to cool down / this feeling’s far too big / to play it cool tonight,” and that’s the fucking line right there. Healthy love doesn’t feel collected and serene when you first get a real taste of it. It feels like too much. Your whole system gets turned up and you’re standing there trying to look normal while internally completely falling apart. The production underneath it is already with that brass and groove locking in and the whole thing feels like someone trying to hold their composure while the temperature in the room keeps climbing.

The Motown DNA runs deep in this track and I mean deep. You hear it in the brass and how the whole thing swings. Prince and Whitney Houston are in the bones of this, and pulling that off in 2026 without sounding like a costume is genuinely impressive. I once dated a guy who played saxophone, by the way. That’s a whole other story and I don’t come out of it looking great, but a good sax line does something to a person and this one earns every second of it. TALI has the kind of theatrical instincts that come through in how she handles a song with this much going on and the Chappell Roan influence is audible in the way she makes every moment feel like it deserves its own spotlight.
Then the chorus opens up and she goes for it – “and I get so sentimental / that I lose myself / I’m going mental / but it all makes sense / so fundamental / I can’t walk away / So detrimental / but (it’s) in the best way.” That’s the one. “So detrimental / but in the best way” is some sexy shit and she knows it. That’s the kind of line you want to text someone at midnight with absolutely no context. The whole hook is about surrendering to something good and not being able to stop yourself which is a more honest admission than most love songs bother making. Being loved right wrecks you, and TALI gets that the feeling of finally having something real is not peaceful. It’s overwhelming in a way that costs you your footing and she wrapped all of that in a hook so damn catchy it almost hides how emotionally exposed the whole thing is.

So who is this fierce bitch who has me all up in my feels? TALI was born in Jerusalem and moved to New York at nineteen to study musical theatre at Marymount Manhattan College which is maybe the shortest version of a story that actually starts at twelve when she was already writing songs. By sixteen, this hot girl on the loose was releasing original music, and she spent the next few years building her live show at venues like Rockwood Music Hall toward the 2021 EP “Lose You.” Then 2024 came and she was ready. Like, literally! She won the Luxembourg Song Contest and took “Fighter” to Eurovision in Malmö as Luxembourg’s first contestant in 31 fucking years. Badass! She finished 13th out of 37 countries and came home to EU festival stages and the Luxembourg Philharmonic. In October 2025 she performed at the Ceremony of Accession to the Throne of the new Grand Duke of Luxembourg, because of course she did, and in 2026 she’s been releasing soulful indie-R&B singles back to back like some feral force of nature who was never going to let one massive moment be the whole fucking story.
OK, back to the song. The bridge is where “(Senti)mental” gets genuinely intimate. She sings “I’m so deep in it / it’s written all over my face / leaving me red-handed / catch me bluffing all my feelings see again,” and TALI delivers it with this warm, knowing energy, like she’s been caught and she’s completely fine with it. Being red-handed about feelings is sexy as hell when it’s the right person doing the catching. She’s been trying to bluff her way through falling for him and she lost completely, and the way she delivers it makes the losing sound like relief. Then she closes on the acknowledgment that he loves all of her, every part of who she is, and that’s the emotional argument the whole song was building toward. The love is thorough. He sees her fully and he’s staying, and she’s done pretending that doesn’t undo her.
My therapist would absolutely call this song progress. I’d call it a problem, because I’ve had it on repeat all week and every time the sax solo comes in I think about some shit I probably shouldn’t, including every good guy I didn’t know what the hell to do with when I had the chance. TALI figured out how to hold something this good and wrote a track about it that sounds like a celebration, and I’m genuinely jealous of both things. Mostly I’m grateful the song exists, because the rest of us needed to feel a little less crazy about how completely disorienting the right love can be.
