Sexyy Red Doesn’t Just Push the Envelope, She Shreds it with “In Sexyy We Trust”

Music Review of "In Sexyy We Trust" from Sexyy Red.

Sexyy Red‘s In Sexyy We Trust is a 14-track escapade into a world of hedonism and vitality, where rhythmic beats dance with playful vulgarity. This mixtape is a rollercoaster of self-empowerment, sexuality, and independence, celebrating femininity and the audacious freedom to flip off societal norms. Renowned for her cheeky lyrics, Sexyy Red effortlessly blends sass, confidence, and a sprinkle of humor. Overall, it delivers precisely what fans have come to anticipate from her.

The beats on In Sexyy We Trust certainly break new ground. This authenticity shines through in “Sport,” a track notable for its stripped-down production that puts Sexyy Red’s vocals in the spotlight. These beats form the mixtape’s core, boldly exploring new musical landscapes.

In Sexyy We Trust is collaboration central! With Sexyy Redd teaming up with the likes of VonOff1700, Drake, and Lil Baby, this album is a flavor explosion. These musical partnerships spice things up, adding Southern influences from legends like Project Pat, Juicy J, and Gucci Mane.

The album ignites with three standout tracks. “Tim Talking” sets the stage with its dynamic vibe, followed by “She’s Back,” bursting with intense energy. Then, “Boss Me Up” comes in strong, with Tay Keith‘s piano melodies elevating Sexyy Redd’s assertive lyrics. Sexuality takes center stage in this album, with tracks like “Lick Me” and “Boss Me Up” delivering fearless and unreserved lyrics. These songs give a cheeky wink to conventional gender norms and stereotypes, spinning a tale of sexual empowerment and autonomy that both raises eyebrows and sparks inspiration.

The standout track of the EP, “Outside,” is a delightful cocktail of vibraphones and hi-hats, shaken and stirred by the maestro Mike WiLL Made-It. This trailblazer dances to its own beat with quirky vocal edits, giving a cheeky nod to M.I.A‘s vibrant style. When you think you’ve figured it out, surprise vocal interjections tee you up for a jaw-dropping beat drop. The sonic adventure continues with “Sport,” a bold anthem that flexes its muscles, leading smoothly into the swagger-filled “TTG (Go).”

Sexyy Red’s mixtape is like a rollercoaster ride of vocal twists and turns, but sometimes it feels like the coaster hit a few too many loops. The tracks can be a bit of a jumble, like a musical smoothie – you know there’s good stuff in there, but it’s hard to pick out the flavors. ‘In Sexyy We Trust’ might have you thinking your repeat button is stuck, and the rest of the album could use a sprinkle of variety – it’s like expecting a box of assorted chocolates but getting all caramels. It has potential; with a bit more time in the studio kitchen, Sexyy Red could cook up something consistently hot. Riding the wave of fame isn’t easy, but she’s got some sparkly gems in there that shine through the rough.

“In Sexxy We Trust” is a fearless and unabashed record that doesn’t just push the envelope—it shreds it. It’s a celebration of individuality, strutting its stuff with themes of bold self-confidence, unbridled sexual empowerment, and relentless grit. These beats don’t just stand out in the rap game; they dance on the table with neon sneakers. Sexyy Red isn’t just climbing the charts; she’s building her own ladder. Her tunes are set to become the heartbeat of clubs everywhere, bringing back the spirit of crunk like a blast from the past, complete with ground-shaking bass and the kind of nights you won’t remember but will never forget.
