There’s this guy, and the problem has never been that he’s bad for me. The problem is my body figured that out years ago and decided to go full traitor anyway. My brain makes its case, lays out the evidence, does the whole closing argument thing. My body sits there nodding politely and then does whatever the hell it wants the second he shows up. That particular brand of want, the kind that completely overrides your judgment and makes you feel genuinely stupid with it, that’s the territory NVIY is living in on ‘Infected.’ She wrote this track while she was literally feverish and delirious with the flu and instead of sleeping it off she turned that whole state into a dark R&B song about what it feels like when someone gets into your system so deep your whole body runs fucking hot just thinking about them. I’ve been that girl. I’m probably still that girl if I’m being honest.
The production pulls you under first. Deep bass and heavy synths, the whole thing moving slow and deliberate, already decided where this night is going. No rush at all. It sounds dangerous and slightly unhinged and every bit of that is a compliment. When the bridge kicks in and the pace shifts, it mirrors that moment when the obsession stops being manageable and starts being a full-body situation. NVIY produces and mixes everything herself, so every choice in this track is completely hers, and she made some damn good ones.

The opening verse is the confession you make at 2am to nobody in particular. “Boy I’m drippin in a fever / Got me holdin on and deeper / I’m so tangled up in danger / Ain’t no remedy to soothe me / Only you can save me” and that’s it, that’s the whole thing right there. She’s drenched in it, getting shit-faced deep in it, fully aware it’s dangerous, and she’s still reaching for the one thing deepening the fever. No cure scene. She’s not looking for one. She’s holding on tighter and the fever is the whole reason she showed up.
Then she strips it all the way down. “So pull me / Under your arms / Take me to the sky.” Three lines and she’s handed her whole ass over completely. The want gets so specific it almost hurts and she delivers it so quietly it cuts straight through everything around it. I felt those butterflies in my stomach.
The chorus is where the fever goes full body. She opens it with “Boy you know I’m / Infected with your love tonight / Infected every moment that we touch / Infected you’re my poison and life” and that word “infected” hitting three times in a row is doing something. Every touch makes it worse. He’s the poison and the reason she’s still breathing and she’s completely at peace with both of those being true at the same time.
Then the second verse drops any pretense of holding it together. “Burnin like a fire / Burnin up / I’m fallin without warnin / Fallin for you / Body hot in sweat / Contagious / It’s dangerous” — she’s way past gone by the time the second line drops. The falling without warning is the part that gets me, because that’s the realest thing about this kind of want. You don’t see it coming and by the time you do, you’re already way past the point of caring.

She said “they’ve infected your heart, and they’re also the only cure,” and I need a second with that because it’s so goddamn accurate it’s almost annoying. When someone has gotten that deep into your system that pulling them out would just make everything hurt more, your judgment goes fully offline. Your body has already claimed this person and filed all the shit away without consulting you. NVIY closes with “You’re my fever / Every night” and it’s so simple it should feel thin. Five words and it’s the whole song distilled. Every night. That’s the kind of obsession that turns your whole schedule into a symptom.
NVIY is a Los Angeles-based Asian American artist who does every single fucking thing herself, writing, producing, mixing, and directing her own visuals because handing her creative world to someone else was never an option. She came up through design before she came up through music and that background shows in the way she builds a sonic universe that looks as intentional as it sounds. She debuted in 2025 with ‘Yours, eternally,’ a dreamy indie-pop meditation on loving someone past death, and then came back swinging with ‘Infected’ in March 2026, a darker, slow-burning R&B track she wrote while she was genuinely sick with the flu and decided that feverish, delirious feeling was the perfect vessel for what obsessive love actually does to your body. With deep bass, heavy synths, and production that moves like it has something to prove, NVIY is building something that feels completely her own, and she’s got 675 monthly listeners right now, which means you’re early and you should be goddamn smug about it.
My brain still has that whole closing argument ready to go, and I genuinely could not give a fuck. Now I have NVIY’s ‘Infected’ to play on the nights the fever shows up uninvited and I let it in anyway, because who the hell wants a cure for something that feels this good.
