Michy’s ‘Don’t Care’ Is for Nights You Wasted Looking Hot for Someone Who Didn’t Deserve It

Okay, so I need to talk about this because I’ve literally been that girl sitting at the bar, full face of makeup, hair perfect, drinking cosmos like they’re water while waiting for some mediocre guy to text me back. And the fucked up part? I knew he wasn’t shit. I knew I looked good. I still wanted him to want me anyway. That’s the kind of messy we don’t talk about enough, and Michy just made a whole song about it.

‘Don’t Care’ is giving everything I needed three relationships ago. It’s this sexy R&B groove that’s got this angry energy that somehow makes you want to dance instead of cry—or maybe both at the same time, I don’t make the rules.

Listen, the verses hit with this melancholic thing that feels like 2 am when you’re still up scrolling his Instagram. But then the chorus comes in hot and you’re suddenly ready to go out and be the baddest bitch you already are. Michy opens with “drinking my weight in cosmos / waiting for your ass to call me / darling don’t you think this is fun?” and I felt that in my fucking soul. The sarcasm? Chef’s kiss. Because no bestie, this is not fun, but we’re doing it anyway.

    michy

She’s “dressed up like I’ve won the lotto” with “cherry lips and my hair down” waiting for this man to notice her, and holy shit if that’s not every time I’ve gotten ready for someone who ended up being a disappointment. The way she admits “you fuck me up in my head / still I want your hair in my hands”—that’s the real thing right there. Your brain knows he’s trash, but your body hasn’t gotten the memo yet.

What I love is she doesn’t pretend to be over it. She’s not doing that fake “I don’t care” thing where you actually care so much you might combust. She’s saying yeah, “I know if I look in the mirror / I’m the baddest bitch around here” and also yeah, “you fuck me up in my head.” Both things are true. She could “take you all the way there,” but he “still don’t care,” and that contradiction is living rent-free in my head.

The production shifts from those sad girl verses into this high-energy chorus that matches the emotional whiplash perfectly. One second you’re having “breakfast with croissants and sorrow,” the next you’re talking about blocking his number and making him wonder if you were ever actually into him or “just a little bored with too much time.” That line is so fucking good because sometimes we don’t even know the answer ourselves.

Michy’s from Italy, has this multicultural background, and writes with this wry, sensual edge that makes even getting rejected feel a little sexy somehow. She explained the music video is a twist on how dangerous it can actually be when women don’t care about men’s advances—”i got us, ladies ;)” she says. We love protective R&B anthems.

This song gets it. The way we can know our worth and still want validation from someone who can’t see it. The way we can be “as sweet as pie and as dark as your lies” in the same breath. She’s not picking a side between empowered and hurt—she’s saying you can be both, and actually that’s pretty fucking normal.

Stream this while you’re getting ready to go out and forget about him. Or while you’re still deciding if you want to forget about him. Either way, it slaps, and Michy gets us.
