Some songs stay loud long after the night ends. ‘Out of Focus’ does that, settling in when the music fades, makeup’s half gone, and sleep won’t come. ‘Out of Focus’ is exactly that. Magdalia lays her life out in a way that feels raw and unfiltered: the confusion of being a late-diagnosed neurodivergent woman, and the ache of watching her father lose his sight when she was still a kid.
She doesn’t sugarcoat it. “Nobody understands my point of view / Told me to just get out and try / When everybody’s talking over you / It’s easy to believe the lie.” That’s the exhaustion of constantly being dismissed, of learning to doubt yourself because the world won’t listen. The honesty in her delivery makes the lyric sting, but it also makes it deeply relatable for anyone who’s ever felt unheard.

The chorus opens up in full confession mode. “Living out of focus for a long long time / Switching up the lenses trying to get it right / But it was in my mind / And it was me the whole time.” You can hear her wrestling with identity, clarity, and the painful realization that so much of the struggle came from inside. She didn’t yet have the language to explain her reality, and that absence made the struggle even heavier. That lyric are heavy, revealing truths you avoid until they stare you down.
“I wanted to write something that felt good to perform but still told a story that mattered to me,” Magdalia says. “Both experiences were tough and confusing, but they made me who I am. ‘Out of Focus’ is about finding clarity in the middle of all that.” In this track, she’s finding release in saying it out loud, and in doing so, she gives the rest of us permission to breathe a little easier with our own experiences.
The verses pull that struggle closer. “I’ve been taking back my power / And maybe it’s just in my mind / The seed that blooms into a flower / Can’t grow without giving it time.” That’s resilience without gloss, the slow, uneven process of reclaiming yourself after years of feeling blurred out. It’s giving a glow-up, but the kind that happens internally, in ways no one sees until it’s undeniable.

Production from Olivia Regueira-Garcia stays stripped enough to keep her voice at the center, with Liv Volpe’s mix lending clarity where the lyrics speak of blur. What’s striking is how the production keeps it upbeat, pulling in club-ready dream-pop shimmer and dance-pop drive even while the subject matter cuts deep. It feels good to move to, even when the story underneath is heavy. The live video, filmed at Bakehouse Studios, uses shifting focus to echo the theme — a simple, effective way of tying the sound back to the story.
That no-filter honesty has been her calling card across stages from The Paris Cat Jazz Club to major festivals like The Festival of Sails. It’s the same energy she’s carried onto TikTok, where her blunt humor, her love of Formula 1, and her gift for storytelling have made her stand out fast. With an RSOM Songwriter of the Year title, a Music Victoria Amplify Award nomination, and support from Cardinia Arts Grants behind her debut EP, ‘Out of Focus’ feels less like a first step and more like proof she’s already earned her place.
By the time she closes on “Cross my heart and hope to die / It was me the whole time,” the song feels like both a wound and a release. Heavy, but necessary. It’s a track you sit with, a track you feel.
