MACY’s ‘Please Keep Talking’ Turns Awkward Conversations into a Certified Banger

I have perfected the art of looking interested when I absolutely am not and it turns out that’s a superpower. Full eye contact and the smile that arrives right on cue. My brain checks out around sentence three and goes somewhere with better options, but my face stays completely committed to the performance, like at parties where I make the mistake of one question and thirty minutes later I’m into something I didn’t sign up for. My face is convincing as hell and I know it, already composing the group chat recap while I’m still physically standing here nodding. So when MACY sang “Sorry your lips are moving no clue what you’ve been saying” on ‘Please Keep Talking,’ I laughed out loud alone in my apartment. She wrote the field guide to that face, and I feel extremely called out.

The production on this thing is a goddamn event, and honestly you feel it from the jump. The chorus parks itself in your head and straight up refuses to leave. This is a repeat-button situation and I’m not apologizing for it no matter how much my serious indie boyfriend complains about my funky music. MACY’s vocals hit with this bright confidence that just commands the room, the kind of song that makes everyone move at pregame before they even know the words.

So, the first verse is doing a lot with very little. “I must’ve slipped away well never mind just say it again” is so casually devastating. She got caught zoning out. Her solution: never mind, go ahead. No apology, no recovery attempt. A polite redirect that keeps her completely off the hook. Then we get “This story is so enthralling / I can’t wait to tell all my friends” and she means the second part completely. Every terrible social shit show becomes content eventually. MACY is logging this one in real time, and that’s the whole bit.

That pre-chorus is pure committed sarcasm. “You’re so thrilling it’s the best / Don’t make me wait just tell me more” is MACY performing enthusiasm so convincingly the person talking probably thinks it’s going great. The production stays bouncy and bright under it, which makes the gap between the words and the reality sharper. She’s fully committed to this performance. That shit is funny every single time.

And then the chorus just goes for it. “Please keep talking, are you done yet? / Oh it’s killing me / I hate this honestly / I feel so stuck and you won’t walk away.” The polite face and the actual experience running in parallel, both out loud at the same time. “I feel so stuck and you won’t walk away” is so specific it stings. The hook is built on that gap and MACY performed the hell out of it. That line right there is the whole song.

Honestly verse two is where she drops the performance entirely. “Sorry you caught me yawning / It’s just you’re so damn boring.” She got caught. Her response: confirm the yawn was accurate and move on. No softening, no recovery. She escalates. “I tried to play along but my ears hurt and my mothers calling” and the way she delivers that is so damn good because she’s already halfway out the door in her head before she’s finished the sentence. Then comes the fake emergency: “Oh god I wish she was, with something real important / I’d have to rush along and leave you here and you’d still be talking.” That last line is what makes the whole damn song work. She’s not dreaming about a better night. She’s dreaming about a fake crisis severe enough to justify leaving. And the prediction that this person would still be talking after she’s already gone? I’ve lived that moment and it’s the worst, most relatable shit imaginable.

MACY has been making irresistible music from her bedroom since 2020 and the trajectory has been a whole damn thing to watch. Two EPs in. Festival stages across Wales, the Principality Stadium, the BAFTA Awards. An international slot at M for Montreal in 2024. Her own mini-festival PLANET POP across Cardiff venues because she wanted a stage and just built one herself. BBC Radio 1 spins. She supported Ronan Keating at In It Together in 2025 and played FOCUS Wales at the Rockin’ Chair in Wrexham. ‘Please Keep Talking’ was written alongside Owain Felstead and producer Zak Lloyd at Birchwood Recording Studio in Newport. Lloyd’s credits run through the Taylor Swift Reputation Tour and sessions with Charli XCX and Keane and he brought that arena-ready polish to every layer of this track. The Jessie J and Dua Lipa influences are all over it along with a vocal style similar to Ke$ha’s early work. The ambition is real and this fucking delivers.

My superpower is still fully operational. Last week, two successful deployments. Face locked in, smile right on schedule. Nobody suspected a damn thing and honestly I deserve an ass-kicking for how good I am at this. My brain was running a completely different evening in parallel, already drafting the recap. MACY put that experience on a loop in my head now, which means even when I finally escape the conversation, she’s still in there. I’m not mad about it. ‘Please Keep Talking’ is the first thing I’m sending the group chat.
