I was riding a man I had no business seeing when my phone lit up on the mattress beside us. Another man’s name filled the screen and the tiny jolt in my stomach pissed me off, because the one under me had both hands locked on my hips and was doing a far better job of earning my attention. The message said come outside. Two words. Filthy little bait from somebody who knew I had a weakness for bad timing and unfinished business. I looked at the screen, then down at the man making my thighs shake, and laughed at myself because apparently my hormones were trying to book a crossover episode at the worst possible hour. So I flipped the phone face-down and got back to what mattered, and let that other name sit out there in the cold with its sad little midnight invitation. Lorensa’s ‘Priority’ belongs in the middle of a mess like that, when a woman has every reason to chase the text and chooses the better high instead. She mainlined that frequency straight into my bloodstream and I’m already itching for the next hit.
Let me set the scene before I get into what she’s actually saying. The production sits dark and sleek underneath her with that low glossy R&B-pop slink that moves like it knows you’re staring and has decided not to care. I’ll be real with you – a beat this confident has talked me into things I had to lie about later. It’s the kind of synth line that makes you sit up a little straighter and reconsider who you’re texting back. Whoever built this knew the song needed to sound like a woman who’s fully aware she’s the hottest thing in any given room and bored by having to mention it.
Okay so she comes in already winning and doesn’t even look up from her water bottle to do it. “Booked busy unbothered / I’ve been drinking my water / Ass fat I keep getting hotter / I’ve been out here moving silently / Only got time for me / My phone on dnd.” This is a woman who figured out the dirtiest secret there is which is the most devastating thing you can do to a man is get hotter while ignoring him. Hydrated and unbothered, she keeps her phone face-down. She’s just thriving with the fucking ringer off and letting him find out through mutual friends. God, I love when women weaponize their own peace.

The next section gets even better with “Let you go did it on purpose / Peace of mind I earned it / Nice for what not worth it / And baby if I’m speaking honestly / Ain’t got the energy / Me myself all I need.” That “did it on purpose” undoes me every time. No accident. She clocked the whole situation as beneath her and walked, and now she’s collecting peace of mind like the back pay she’s owed. I have kept a man around because his dick knew what it was doing while every conversation made me want to throw my phone into traffic. Lorensa cuts the cord before that kind of arrangement starts draining her. A man can make a woman’s toes curl and still have absolutely nothing else to offer.
Quick tangent because I genuinely cannot help myself. The first time a man hears the words “ain’t got the energy” come out of a woman’s mouth in reference to him, his entire face stops working. The buffering wheel. The little confused head tilt of a golden retriever who heard a sound. I have personally watched a grown man malfunction over being informed he was simply not on the schedule, and I would pay good money to watch it happen again. God forbid a woman have a calendar and the audacity to keep him off it. Anyway, back to my girl.
She loads up the hook with the flattest brush-off in the game. “You want me to do what who where / Fuck the function I don’t care.” Reading an invitation and feeling your soul produce absolutely nothing in response is a kind of freedom most people never reach. Then the hook lands like a door clicking shut. “Not my priority / Baby I want more for me / Not tryna cause a scene / Ain’t personal had to close the door tho / Used to be that girl not anymore no.” The “used to be that girl” admission is the sexiest thing on the whole damn track, because she’s owning that there was a version of her who picked up on the first ring and once rearranged her whole life around a man’s convenience. She killed that girl. No funeral.
Then comes the part that makes me cackle, where she ranks him on a chart he didn’t know existed. “Not my priority / Not even my top 3 / Boy what you want from me / Keep calling i won’t pick up the phone tho / Hate to be that girl but i dont got no / Time cause you’re not my priority.” Not even top three. She did the fucking math and put it in writing. And she’s not even worked up enough to block him, she’s just letting him keep dialing a phone she’s already decided to ignore, which is honestly a slower and filthier kind of revenge than going off ever could be.

She seals it with a boundary that doubles as an invoice. “Won’t be there / Unless I’m gettin’ paid / No don’t make no mistake / This new me she don’t play / Cutting ties / Boy dont you act surprised / Just tryna live my life / Mind yours I’m mindin’ mine.” My favorite act of disrespect on the record is “unless I’m gettin’ paid,” because she just put a damn cover charge on her own presence and let him know he’s not getting comped in. This new version of her doesn’t entertain the question and isn’t going to perform shock that he’s shocked. She told him who she was. His fault for not taking notes.
Lorensa is the Israeli singer-songwriter based in Los Angeles making sleek pop-R&B with hot girl energy for women who have better things to do than answer a man on the first ring. She moved to the United States in 2016 and built her own lane through Bring Back The Genius, where she keeps the songs and visuals locked into the same seductive little universe. Her recent run from ‘Shoot u’ to ‘Priority’ carries that glossy self-possession of a woman who already knows she looks good leaving. ‘Priority’ feels especially on-brand for her, because Lorensa spent three months training for its video while turning the whole thing into a polished fuck-you to anyone expecting access to her time.
‘Come outside’ never got an answer. By the time the screen went dark, I was still on top and getting exactly what I wanted. Lorensa understands the filthy little power of that decision: you quit treating a man’s access to you as a fucking emergency and remember your body already has a vote. I let him wait. I had better hands on me and a much better reason to stay exactly where I was.
