My boyfriend’s boss decided to send him out of town to close a deal, which is how I ended up at a marketing networking dinner full of people I barely knew alone that night. Seated next to the hottest guy in the room and every direct question I asked him got a pause and just enough back to keep me leaning forward wanting more. An hour in I had my hand on his thigh under the table mere centimeters from Mr. Happy and my mouth at his ear asking him something completely unrelated to what I actually wanted. He turned his head slow, lips close enough that I could feel his breath, and said nothing. Just looked at me. I went home alone and spent the rest of the night so wound up I couldn’t sleep, lying on top of my sheets fully dressed running the whole night back because I couldn’t turn it off. I’m usually better than this. My seduction game that night was a major fucking dud and I walked out of there with nothing but his number when I should have walked out with a lot more. KRISTII’s ‘Secrets’ is that charge set to R&B that sits warm and close and feels like fingers tracing somewhere they haven’t been invited yet, and it opens her debut album Lost & Found at the right temperature.
What Scott Storch and Carmen Reece from the Ariana Grande world built around KRISTII here is unhurried and deliberate. Low-lit. It doesn’t rush her. KRISTII is Vienna-born, classically trained with a 3.5-octave lyric soprano, and she cracked the US Dance Radio Top 10 before she pivoted into this sound. She delayed Lost & Found four times to make it genuinely honest. You hear that in how controlled her voice stays on the verses, giving you just enough while you can feel her deciding how much is safe to hand over.

She opens with “Wanna know what your thinking / is it your eyes I am fearing” and that second line is doing all the work. She’s scared of what she’ll find once she gets in there and she’s leaning forward anyway. The wanting and the fear running simultaneously is the whole dynamic of this track. Then “I want the good the bad the ugly baby” with zero conditions on it. His most embarrassing truth. The version he keeps locked up. Most people ask for the good and quietly hope the rest stays buried. KRISTII’s asking for the buried parts specifically and that kind of appetite makes you the most dangerous person at any dinner table.
She wants his full range. “Are you down in ur feelings / are you high on the ceiling / I want your happy, wild as hell you’re crazy.” Not the composed version he brings to polite company. The unraveled one. The 3am version that comes out when he stops thinking about how he comes across. I know what that wanting feels like and it tends to get me into situations I don’t fully regret.
The pre-chorus is where she gets close enough to feel. “Ricochet, shoot your shot, tell me straight / know you got so much to say / let it out, let me in, take a breath, let’s begin / I swear it’s ok trust in me you’ll be safe / there’s no need to hesitate.” Patient and pressed up against the question. “Ricochet” catches the deflection in real time watching him bounce off every direct line and land somewhere easier. She sees it happening and she’s still fucking asking. The production builds here and you feel the weight of someone leaning in until there’s nothing between you.
The chorus ends with her body because that’s the only honest place to end it. “I wanna know your secrets, your secrets / truth behind your lies / what’s behind those eyes / bring me closer / no need to disguise / let’s unlock your mind / bring me closer.” Bring me closer. Twice. The wanting to know him and the wanting him have merged into one goddamn request and she’s done pretending they’re different conversations.

Here’s where KRISTII earns this whole album. “How I’m feeling is hidden / if I tell will you listen / I strike a pose and smile pretending I’m ok.” She’s been doing the shit she’s been asking him to stop. Performing composed while she’s coming apart underneath it. Then “making out with a stranger / I love the danger / giving you my heart is not so easy” and the whole strategy is right there. The stranger’s hands are easier because nothing real is on the table. No morning after where you’ve given something away you can’t get back. I’ve been that girl. Stranger pressed against me in a dark corner of a bar, his hands moving somewhere slow while I was thinking about someone else entirely, specifically because the person I actually wanted was three feet away and terrifying. Way easier to feel something fast with someone who doesn’t matter. KRISTII knows this about herself and says it out loud on track one of her debut album. Vienna-born, survived a violent past, lived through a life-threatening medical crisis, delayed this record four damn times, and she’s putting it all out there anyway. That takes a particular kind of nerve.
The verse that wrecked my ass. “Once I had a boyfriend / once I had a girlfriend / I can be annoying / my love can be poison / some days up I’ll be dancing / some days I’m pretending / you don’t have to be so lonely.” A guy or a girl – it doesn’t matter because he’s self-aware about the damage her love can do. Knows she runs hot and cold. And after all the guardedness and the stranger’s hands and the performed okayness, what she actually wants is for nobody to feel alone. That last line hit somewhere unexpected. She’s been choosing strangers to avoid being known and the whole song is just her trying to get to something real. The contradiction is the point.
The guy from the dinner texted the morning after. We got drinks and somewhere around the second one I was pressed against him in a booth with his hands doing things that made it genuinely hard to follow what he was saying. Turned out he was an open book once you got him alone. All that mystery was just shyness. My seduction game redeemed itself considerably. KRISTII wants the ugly version on purpose though. She means it when she says bring me closer. Lost & Found starts here and that’s exactly right.
