Last October I walked into a music licensing pitch with a song of mine I’d been sitting on for eight months and a supervisor who’d already passed on my last two submissions. He had that energy: polite but checked the fuck out, laptop open like he planned to be somewhere else in ten minutes. I had one shot. I put my phone face-down on the table, skipped the deck entirely, looked him dead in the eye and said “just listen.” He looked up. I pressed play and four minutes later he was leaning forward with both elbows on the table asking who else had heard it. That is what power sounds like before it opens its mouth. The song I played him was mine. The song that already understood that feeling was one I hadn’t heard yet. A few months later I found it. Kata Csondor’s ‘We Got the Power,’ and goddamn if she hadn’t written the whole thing before I even knew I needed it.
The production is doing something that deserves way more attention than it’s getting. This is contemporary R&B meeting neo-soul where both genres are at their most dangerous. Grammy-winning mixing engineer Dana Jon Chappelle handled the boards here, the same man who’s shaped the sound for Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston. That pedigree is audible in every layer. The mix breathes. It moves. It has weight and space at the same time and honestly that contrast is what makes it feel so damn alive.

The song opens with “When it’s time to risk it all / you gotta fall if you wanna learn to fly / I take my chances and don’t look down.” The way Kata delivers those lines turns them into a dare. She’s already decided and you can come along or get out of the way. ” I’m gonna shake and rattle like thunder / keep living like it’s do-or-die / if you want it, you’re gonna wear the crown. “ The crown is already yours if you can handle the weight of it. That energy is intoxicating as hell.
Then the bridge. “Cause on this endless night / is when we take flight / we can lead the way / and soon to be unified / with the force inside / our D.N.A.” Okay let’s talk about that. “The force inside our D.N.A.” is such a bold thing to claim. It’s baked in. Born with you before you had any say about it. The whole song pivots on that idea, and Kata’s voice carries it without flinching.
The chorus is the moment the whole thing goes from great to fucking undeniable. “Right now everyone turn the volume up / let action speak ’cause words are not enough / hands in the air gonna feel so electric / tonight you bet we are gonna let it go / light a fuse and we’ll make it happen / let imagination soar / anything’s possible and now’s the hour / I’ll say it louder / WE GOT THE POWER now.” She actually writes “WE GOT THE POWER” in caps in the official lyrics. Kata knew. The way her voice carries that line is a declaration with a lit match in its hand.
The second verse opens with “take a look inside your heart / you’re gonna find you have everything you need / use your mind for anything you want.” It sounds simple until you sit with it. She means it. There’s no asterisk. Then she pivots straight into the heat: “Tonight we’ll be breaking records, baby / satisfaction guaranteed / get on your marks, it’s time the game is on.” That line is doing so much work. It’s confident and knowing, with this low hum of desire behind it. You’re gonna win and feel every second of it. The sensuality is in the certainty, and Kata understands that.

The second chorus brings it back around with “Right now everybody turn the volume up / let the action speak ’cause our words are not enough.” One small word shift, “everyone” to “everybody,” and it pulls the whole room in with her.
Kata Csondor [pronounced Chon-dor] is a Hungarian singer and voice actress who’s been performing professionally since she was barely ten years old, making her stage debut alongside her country’s top-tier actors. She’s performed with jazz legends including virtuoso violinist Roby Lakatos and built a career across soul and jazz that established her as every serious musician’s first call for high-profile sessions. She’s also the Hungarian voice of Scarlett Johansson and Rihanna in film dubbing, which tells you everything about the range she’s working with. ‘We Got the Power’ was developed for international audiences with songwriter Michael Jay (Celine Dion, Eminem) and mastering engineer Maria Triana (Camila Cabello, Britney Spears). That team does not assemble for mid tracks, and this sure as shit isn’t one.
The supervisor emailed the next morning and said he couldn’t get the song out of his head. The song I played him was mine. That feeling he was chasing belongs to Kata. That is what she does to people. She gets in and stays there. She’s been doing it since she was ten years old and the whole-ass world is just now getting its turn.
