JIMKEN’s “Undercover Lover” Remix Is a Roller Disco Confession

I was on my knees in a new guy’s living room, not for anything scandalous (yet), but digging through a box of vinyl under his record player, trying to impress him with my very fake knowledge of disco-era deep cuts. That’s when it hit me—not the guilt of whatever I was doing with someone I shouldn’t have been with at 2 a.m.—but the first synthy slap of JIMKEN’s “Undercover Lover (Roller Disco Remix).” I froze. He said something about Donna Summer. I didn’t hear a word. I was already mentally spinning under pink strobes, skating in leg warmers, gliding toward trouble.

This track drips with throwback energy—the kind that smells like cherry lip gloss and tastes like spiked Big Gulps you sneak into the rink. JIMKEN delivers a neon-soaked confession wrapped in a hip-hop-meets-synthwave fantasy, full of fast rhymes and faster regrets. It’s all heartbreak and hedonism, but make it danceable.

Let’s get one thing straight: this song is a mess. But the best kind. The kind of messy you feel in your hips and your chest. It’s emotional whiplash at 120 BPM. He cheated, he’s sorry, he’s spiraling, but wait—did YOU cheat too? Suddenly, it’s “Before you tell me who she is / Just remember who you’re messin’ with.” Like sir??? Gaslight, gatekeep, groove machine?

And that’s what makes it so hot.

The whole vibe is post-fuckup chaos. The lyrics are pure late-night confession booth energy: “I did you wrong so here’s my confession / Cheated on you caused this aggression.”

But we’re not just sitting in the pain—this beat doesn’t let us. It spins us around, smears our mascara, and dares us to text our ex and our current situationship in the same breath. And don’t act like you haven’t.

What I love about this remix is how it plays with contradiction. There’s remorse, but there’s ego. There’s heartbreak, but there’s swagger. It’s the sound of someone owning their mistakes—but only after realizing you’ve moved on. That chorus—“You’ve been living undercover here lately / Found out a few things last night”—is paranoid, sexy, and just a little bit unhinged. Like catching your man flirting in DMs, calling him out on it, then wearing your hottest outfit to his favorite bar the next night. (And kissing someone hotter.)

There’s something candy-coated about the production—like a bubblegum slap to the face in the best way. Synths shimmer like sequins on a halter top, and the beat hits like you’re skating too fast around a turn and loving the danger of it. The whole thing feels designed to make you move, even if your mascara’s running and your texts are unread.

We’ve been hit with a lot of tracks lately channeling that slick 70s-80s energy, and we are living. Most of us are too young to remember the white-hot roller disco craze when skating rinks looked like Studio 54 on wheels. It wasn’t just about dancing—it was about drama, sequins, sweat, and seduction. You didn’t just move to the beat—you became it. I’ve heard my mom rave about those nights (she said they always had the faint scent of weed and Chef Boyardee cheese pizza), and I’ve seen Linda Blair—post-Exorcist, full hot girl mode—in Roller Boogie, skating through neon haze like the main character of everyone’s fantasy. What a damn time to be alive. This remix captures that exact energy and drags it straight into 2025, dripping with synth-pop sensuality and disco damage control.

JIMKEN, who’s been carving out his lane in that synthwave-meets-hip-hop pocket, absolutely nails the vibe here. The remix breathes new heat into the genre and is a hot-pink plea for a second chance—with a wink and a bassline.

“Undercover Lover (Roller Disco Remix)” is for anyone who’s ever said “fuck you” and “I miss you” in the same breath. It’s for dancing in the kitchen and texting “you up?” when you absolutely should not. It’s messy, magnetic, and made to move your ass. And that’s my favorite kind of track.
