Jason Derulo Returns With His Fifth Album, Nu King

After a nine-year hiatus, Jason Derulo’s latest album, Nu King, returns him to the music scene. Since his last album in 2015, Derulo has remained in the spotlight with his singles and presence on social media platforms like TikTok. His collaboration with producer Jawsh 685 on “Savage Love (Laxed—Siren Beat)” even topped the charts in 2020, bolstered by support from the popular group BTS.

The 27-track Nu King is a retrospective journey through Derulo’s career in recent years. It features a diverse range of tracks that have been released over the years, including popular singles like “Swalla” featuring Ol’ Dirty Bastard, Nicki Minaj, and Ty Dolla $ign, and “Tip Toe” featuring French Montana. The album also includes newer offerings such as “Lifestyle” with Adam Levine and “Jalebi Baby,” a remixed version of a TikTok hit by Canadian artist Tesher.

Nu King is filled with high-profile collaborations and recognizable samples. The album opens with Derulo’s signature catchphrase, “Jason Derulo,” which he revived for its catchy appeal. The album exudes confidence and a sense of resurgence from an artist who has maintained his presence in the music industry.

Derulo showcases his audacious side throughout Nu King. Tracks like “Spicy Margarita” featuring Michael Bublé infuse humor and energy into the album, while songs like “Lie to Me” and “Proximity” highlight Derulo’s vocal prowess and romantic inclinations. “Favorite Song” presents a haunting tale of betrayal and heartbreak, demonstrating Derulo’s ability to convey emotional depth through his music.

One standout track on the album is the collaboration with Dido on “When Love Sucks.” While Dido’s presence adds a melancholy tone to the song, it falls slightly short of the impact of Derulo’s earlier hits. Nevertheless, Nu King’s extensive tracklist offers a range of musical styles and experiences, ensuring that there is something for every listener.

In summary, Nu King marks a triumphant return for Jason Derulo. The album showcases his versatility as an artist, blending elements of pop and R&B with compelling storytelling. With its variety of tracks and bold creativity, Nu King re-establishes Jason Derulo’s status as a force in the music industry.
