Five Reasons Taylor Swift Rules the World

Taylor Swift is one of the most popular and successful musicians of our time. She has achieved massive success both critically and commercially. Her ability to write and perform emotionally resonant and relatable songs has been a key factor in her popularity. Her pieces often tackle complex topics like heartbreak, regret, and self-doubt, yet her music remains uplifting and empowering. Her songs often feature catchy hooks that invite sing-alongs, making them incredibly memorable.

    TAYLOR SWIFT AWARDS

Taylor Swift is her generation’s most significant musical icon, eclipsing the careers of her contemporaries. VOX describes her as the millennial Bruce Springsteen and presents a compelling argument. Regarding Swift’s eighth album, Emily St. James writes, “If there were any doubts about this, they should have been dispelled by her latest release: the haunting Folklore, which filters the exact kinds of story-songs Springsteen excels at through Swift’s modern, orchestral-pop aesthetic. The album has been one of the best-received of her career, but then, the response to essentially everything she’s produced since her 2010 album Speak Now has involved critics grudgingly being dragged toward having respect for her skills.”

Her 120 million+ records sold worldwide have made Swift one of the best-selling musicians ever. She is the only act with five consecutive albums debut with one million+ copies sold in the United States. Additionally, she’s been recognized as one of the greatest songwriters of all time in listicles like Billboard’s Greatest of All Time Artists, Rolling Stone’s 100 Greatest Songwriters of All Time, and Time Magazine’s 100 Greatest Celebrities of All Time. Among her many accolades are 12 Grammys, including three Album of the Year awards; a Primetime Emmy Award; 40 American Music Awards; 29 Billboard Music Awards; three IFPI Global Recording Artist of the Year awards; and 92 Guinness World Records. Her advocacy for artists’ rights and women’s empowerment has led her to be hailed as Artist of the Decade and Woman of the Decade.

Taylor Swift has also remained incredibly relevant through her engaging social media presence and willingness to take risks. Her use of social platforms allows her to reach out to her fans directly, creating a strong connection with her fanbase. She has used her social influence to speak out on issues like misogyny, LGBTQ rights, and racism and often puts out music videos that reflect those themes.

TAYLOR SWIFT: TAKING CARE OF BUSINESS

It was reported in June 2019 that Swift was battling Big Machine Records, Scott Borchetta, and Scooter Braun over the ownership of her first six studio albums and their master recordings. The conflict was heavily publicized and covered by the media.

After her contract with Big Machine expired in November 2018, Swift signed with Republic Records. In June 2019, mainstream media reported Braun had acquired Big Machine from Borchetta for $330 million. Braun inherited all copyrighted masters, music videos, and artwork owned by Big Machine, including those for Swift’s first six studio albums. Swift responded by saying she tried to purchase the masters, but Big Machine offered unfavorable terms. According to reports, she called him an “incessant, manipulative bully.” Borchetta claims Swift declined an opportunity to purchase the masters.

As a result, Big Machine and Swift got into a series of legal disputes, leading to further friction; Swift claimed that the label blocked her from performing her music at the 2019 American Music Awards as well as using it in Miss Americana (2020), while Big Machine released Live from Clear Channel Stripped 2008 (2020), Swift’s unreleased work. To gain complete ownership over the six albums, Swift announced that she would re-record them. The masters were sold in October 2020 to the Disney family’s investment company, Shamrock Holdings, for $405 million with the condition Braun kept profiting. After rejecting Shamrock’s offer for an equity partnership, Swift began releasing the re-recorded music through Republic. In 2021, Taylor released Fearless (Taylor’s Version) and Red (Taylor’s Version), re-recordings of her albums Fearless (2008) and Red (2012), to critical and commercial success, breaking multiple sales, streaming, and chart records. A song from the album-“All Too Well (10 Minute Version)”-became the longest song ever to top the Billboard Hot 100, making it Swift’s eighth number-one single. There have also been releases of “Wildest Dreams (Taylor’s Version)” and “This Love (Taylor’s Version). 2021 was Swift’s most successful year as a solo artist and highest-earning year as a musician. According to Swift, Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) will be released on July 7, 2023.

Swift’s stance was supported by musicians, journalists, politicians, and scholars, resulting in a conversation about artists’ rights, intellectual property, private equity, and ethics related to the music industry. New artists were encouraged to negotiate for greater ownership of their music by her response and re-recording. Radio network iHeartRadio announced it would replace older versions of Swift’s tracks with the re-recorded version in its airplay. As a result of her successful and unprecedented re-recording venture, Billboard named Swift the Greatest Pop Star of 2021. In the years since Braun purchased Swift’s Masters and Big Machine, the company has been sold, and Braun has expressed his regret over the purchase.

    TAYLOR SWIFT’S LOVE LIFE

Taylor Swift is no stranger to the spotlight, and her love life is one reason why. Her love life has been a rollercoaster of different relationships, breakups, and reconciliations. The singer-songwriter has been linked to several high-profile celebrities, from Joe Jonas and Harry Styles to John Mayer, Calvin Harris, and Tom Hiddleston. Although many of these relationships were short-lived, it’s clear that Swift’s love life has been one of the most discussed topics in entertainment and has kept fans guessing exactly which songs are about who.

Overall, Taylor Swift’s relationships have significantly impacted her songwriting. By drawing from her personal experiences, Swift has created a powerful and meaningful body of work that reflects her journey through love, heartbreak, and everything in between.

    POLITICS

Because Ms. Swift spent her formative years in Tennessee crafting her country-pop style, many fans and music industry insiders assumed she was a Republican. However, she remained tight-lipped on controversial issues. This changed in 2018 when Taylor famously endorsed Democratic candidates in that year’s midterm elections. She became an advocate for voting rights and encouraged her fans to register and use their voices to influence change.

The singer-songwriter has openly opposed racism and sexism in the music industry, becoming a fierce advocate of the Equality Act. She has spoken frequently at events organized by the Human Rights Campaign and was one of the few Nashville celebrities to oppose the Tennessee anti-LGBTQ+ legislation in 2016 publicly. Swift has also spoken out about the need for comprehensive gun reform and has encouraged her fans to donate to organizations like Everytown for Gun Safety.

Naturally, Taylor is a fierce advocate for women’s rights and the Me Too movement. She has supported the Time’s Up movement and spoken out against the gender pay gap. In addition, Swift has also voiced support for the Black Lives Matter movement and has donated to organizations like the Equal Justice Initiative.

Her involvement in the 2020 election highlighted how passionate she is about making a difference. During that time, Swift took to social media to express her support for Joe Biden and Kamala Harris. She also spoke out against Donald Trump and the Republican party and urged her fans to vote for Democrats. She even released a song titled “Only the Young” in support of the youth vote and the 2020 election.

    MARKETING MACHINE

Ms. Swift’s public image has been an essential factor in her success. Many view her as a role model for young women, and her stage shows have been praised for their energy, enthusiasm, and upbeat messages. Her approachable, down-to-earth persona has allowed her to build a strong connection with her fans, and her music has resonated with listeners of all ages.

But her success goes beyond her music and stage presence. Taylor, and the team powering her career, are masters of marketing. Her real success came when she started leveraging her celebrity status. She was able to land high-profile endorsements and sponsorships, such as Diet Coke, Keds, and CoverGirl, which helped her reach a wider audience.

Swift also makes sure to stay active in the media. She often appears on talk shows, performs at award ceremonies, and even launched her app. All of these activities help keep her face in the public eye and ensure that she is always top of mind for her fans. Taylor is a prime example of how great marketing can create a powerful brand.
