CASANDRA Makes Herself the Answer on Defiant New Single ‘SOLUTION’

I had a guy tell me I was “a lot” once. We were mid-argument about something I cannot even remember now which tells you everything you need to know about how important that argument actually was. I spent the next six months trying to figure out how to be less, starting with a new hairstyle and quieter opinions at dinner. None of it worked because you cannot actually edit yourself into someone you’re not, and the attempt just made me dull and miserable on top of being a lot, which is a shit deal no matter how you spin it. Eventually I said fuck it and stopped treating my whole personality like a problem in need of managing. That shift – the one where you finally decide you’re not the issue – CASANDRA caught it and built a whole song around it. ‘SOLUTION’ is what it sounds like when a woman stops asking whether she’s allowed to be here and starts acting like the answer.

This song is the third piece of a foundation CASANDRA has been quietly, deliberately laying, following ‘EXPLICIT’ and ‘PERMANENT MISTAKE,’ and if you’ve been paying attention you already know she doesn’t waste a single release. The production is hypnotic and rhythmic on the surface, the sultry sound you expect and demand from a Latina singer, but there’s something much heavier moving underneath it. That tension is the whole point. She’s wrapping themes of identity, belonging, and what it means to build a home inside yourself in music that sounds like it wants to make you move and the combination is fucking disorienting in the best way.

The song opens with a restraint that’s almost unsettling. “Saw it the way it was / Held in my heart because / I would never do you like that.” She knows what she knows and she chose to sit with it rather than blow it up. The decision to hold something privately and not weaponize it is its own kind of power. Most of us would’ve screamed it from a rooftop or at minimum sent a very unhinged 2am text. She held it and walked away clean and I respect that more than I can say.

Then comes the chorus. “No love a solution like that / No love / No love a solution like that / No love no love / A solution like that.” “No love” said that many times is a declaration. Full stop. She’s done waiting for love to validate the space she takes up. The repetition is relentless and physical, the kind of loop that gets into your body and stays, and by the time it resolves she’s already made her point.

The second verse is where she gets cold about it. “What I will let go so differently / Paint it out in my head / Quite, quite, quite literally / But take no emotion out of this / I’m no lil sis no more / She moving, she moving” She’s graduated from being the smaller version of herself and she’s not carrying anyone else’s feelings out the door with her. The line about taking no emotion out of this is delivered ice cold and is fucking magnetic for it, the sound of someone who has genuinely stopped caring what gets left behind. And then the closing repetition takes over and the whole track becomes movement, pure and unhurried, a woman who has already decided and is simply walking toward whatever comes next.

The bridge is where the whole track opens itself up. “How did I find out so far away / Lingering imagination reaching for grace / But I didn’t know ’til I got lost / It’s happened once or twice already / Did you find me here and let me in?” That last line is doing things that the rest of the song has been building toward. The intimacy of being found after years of being lost, of someone having actual access to the parts of you that stayed locked and private and untouched, is the most loaded moment on the track. She could be asking a lover. She could be asking herself. Either way the answer is yes and her whole body knows it.

CASANDRA is the Miami-born, LA-based experimental pop artist who will make you feel things you weren’t prepared to feel on a random Tuesday, and she is absolutely not sorry about it. This woman builds songs the way other people build shrines, blending alt-pop, R&B, and electronic textures into cinematic soundscapes that shift between raw vulnerability and full-on defiance, writing in both English and Spanish because her Cuban heritage doesn’t fit in one language and frankly neither does she. Her upcoming EP ISLA TRANQUILITA, out May 15, is dedicated to her late great aunt Teresa, who raised her on the word “tranquilita” every time life got to be too much, and CASANDRA made a whole body of work out of that one word because she’s that fucking good. Emotionally precise and completely uninterested in making music that plays it safe she is building a body of work so nakedly personal it feels illegal to listen to and impossible to stop.

I stopped trying to become digestible for people who were never going to appreciate what they had. It took me longer than it should have and cost more than I’ll ever fully admit but I stopped. CASANDRA stopped asking whether she was allowed to take up space and turned the whole question into music that makes you feel, in your actual body, that you finally figured something out. She says ‘SOLUTION’ dances in the breeze, “free and truly alive,” and she’s right. The girl who was born an accident made herself the solution, and damn if that isn’t the whole fucking point.

CASANDRA's 'SOLUTION' is about building a home inside yourself when the world spent years making you feel like you didn't belong anywhere. The production is hypnotic and the message goes bone deep.
