Caplin & Massiah’s ‘Shaped Like You’ Brings Heartbreak, Resilience to the Dancefloor

This duo gets around. Zeeteah Massiah has lent her powerhouse vocals to legends like Tom Jones, Phil Collins, and Sting, while Paul Caplin’s trailblazing work with the ’80s trio Haysi Fantayzee brought hit singles and a gold album to life. Together, Caplin & Massiah’s combined artistry and decades of experience shine in Shaped Like You, a track that promises to get you on your feet with its infectious dancehall-esque rhythms.

Beneath the groove, however, lies a deeper message of heartbreak. Inspired by a tough time in Zeeteah’s life, the song began as Baby Girl, a reggae track about personal loss with the poignant chorus, “Everybody sees this hole in my heart, and everybody knows it’s shaped like you.” Reimagined as a dancehall pop anthem about the end of a love affair, the song transforms raw emotion into an upbeat, soulful celebration of resilience. Caplin & Massiah’s ability to channel personal pain into a genre-blending, danceable track speaks volumes about their artistry. Their sound, a masterful fusion of dancehall, blues, and soul, reflects their deep roots in music history while embracing contemporary innovation—a hallmark they continue to build on with Shaped Like You.
