Brooke Falls’ ‘Name’ Knows Who You Are Before You Walk In

Pauly Shore once said every pack of hot girls has a Lisa in it. Yell “hey, Lisa!” and one of them always turns around. That bit landed because it’s true. Your name is a reputation you inherited before you did anything to earn it. I’m an ‘Amber’ and I have never once had to explain what that means at a party. Stripper? Pornstar? No, but I have that personality. Brooke Falls just baked the whole roster of 2003’s most popular baby girl names into ‘Name’ and those girls are 23, peaking, and absolutely in the room right now. They’re out earning whatever reputation their name already promised.

The production on ‘Name’ sits a few beats per minute shy of full hyperpop, which is the right call. Push it any harder and the conversational rap delivery gets swallowed the fuck up. Instead it lives in that sweet spot where the bass is aggressive enough to feel like a club but controlled enough that you can still hear every name getting called out. Hyperpop as a genre is built on sensory overload and Brooke Falls dials it back just enough to let the premise breathe. The track hits like the room getting louder around you while somehow the person talking directly in your ear stays perfectly clear.

The song sets up its whole premise in one line: “Will you be an angel like Abigail / or a devil like Devon or Isabelle.” And if you’ve ever been to a fucking sorority function you already know who each of those girls is. Abigail brought a charcuterie board and remembered everyone’s dietary restrictions. Devon hooked up with two different guys in the same hour and Isabelle is the one who talked her into it. Hot girl archetypes with student IDs, basically.

Then the second verse rolls through like the cast of Sex Lives of College Girls, because these are literally those girls Mindy Kaling was writing about. Olivia and CeCe are giving main character energy, the girls who float through a party looking effortlessly magnetic and somehow never spill their drinks. Mikayla gives the nicest hugs and you know she’s also the one who will remind you to take condoms ‘just in case’ and hold your hair back at 2am after the Jägermeister fucks you harder than the guy who bought it for you. And then there’s Katie, who “comes out to play” and the song is not being subtle about what that means, and Kaylee who’s eating someone’s Cheerios the next morning like she owns the kitchen. The angel-or-devil question basically answers itself by name.

The bridge just detonates the whole sorority roster in one go. Emily, Madison, Hailey, Gracie, Megan, Chloe, Anna, Sydney, Kathrine, Rachel, Natalie, Morgan, Ava, Mackenzie. Every single one of those names has a girl attached to her and you know which ones were angels and which ones were a goddamn hot mess and you love them both for it.

Brooke Falls is Philadelphia’s most theatrical problem and she fucking knows it. Musical theatre background, bedroom pop ambitions, zero chill about either. She’s been building since 2020, stacking tracks like ‘Petals,’ ‘Feverdreamer,’ and ‘1994 Jeep Laredo,’ which crossed 30k streams independently because she does this entirely her way. Now she’s got a full debut electronic pop album out and she titled it “BROOKE FALLS TYPE BEAT.” The audacity is earned.

The 2003 girls are 23 and when somebody yells their name across a loud room tonight, every Olivia, every Madison, every Katie who comes out to play already knows the reputation she’s living up to. She inherited it before she did a single thing to earn it and she has spent the last 23 years making it true anyway. I’m an Amber and I have been that girl my whole life. Brooke Falls just put it on a record and now we finally have something to play while the reputation runs the room.
