Britney Spears‘ long-awaited memoir, The Woman in Me, will be published on October 24 by Gallery Books, a Simon & Schuster imprint.
On Tuesday afternoon, the pop star shared a video on Instagram with the caption, “It’s coming… my story on my terms at last. Are you ready?” The book cover displays Spears topless, wrapping her arms around herself and looking straight into the camera.

The book’s official website describes it as “a brave and astonishingly moving story about freedom, fame, motherhood, survival, faith, and hope.” According to the site, the Woman in Me will follow Spears’ journey through ending her conservatorship.
“In June 2021, the whole world was listening as Britney Spears spoke in open court,” states the website. “The impact of sharing her voice — her truth — was undeniable, and it changed the course of her life and the lives of countless others. For the first time, The Woman in Me reveals her incredible journey — and the strength at the core of one of the greatest performers in pop music history.”
In June 2021, Spears took the stand in court to ask a judge to end her 13-year conservatorship. According to her, her father, Jamie Spears, controlled her finances and life, forcing her to work against her will, preventing her from seeing her children and boyfriend, financially exploiting her, and more. In her testimony, Spears stated that she “would like to be able to share my story with the world and what they did to me instead of it being a hush-hush secret to benefit all of them.”

“I want to be heard on what they did to me by making me keep this in for so long is not good for my heart,” she said to NPR . “I’ve been so angry, and I cry every day. It concerns me [that] I’m told I’m not allowed to expose the people who did this to me.”
In November 2021, a judge terminated Britney Spears’ conservatorship. She has since collaborated with Elton John, had a jukebox musical hit Broadway, and engaged with her fans in some very candid social media posts.
Ms. Spears announced in February 2022 that she would write a memoir after a fierce bidding war and a $15 million deal with Simon & Schuster, one of the largest book deals in history.
