I dated someone once who lived six stops away on the F train. I knew every bump and every screech of the brakes. I knew how many seconds between stations. And I knew—the whole fucking ride—that I was going back to someone who’d already checked out weeks ago. But I’d still slam that MetroCard at midnight and tell myself this time would be different. That’s exactly where Belle Blue lives on “Needed You More,” and she doesn’t waste time pretending it’s anything other than what it is.
Belle Blue is a Brooklyn-raised teenager who grew up on Garbage and David Bowie and she’s dragging rock back from whatever sanitized grave it’s been rotting in. This girl wants to make rock matter again and bringing back the riot grrrl vibe to do it!
The track opens with “I take you home like you had never left / Just five more stops until I’m in the past.” First line and she’s already there—on that train, counting down her own destruction. Each station is pulling her backward into something she knows will fucking wreck her. “Our love is tied upon the broken tracks / Just three more stops” hits visceral—metal grinding, something that was functional now shattered, and their whole relationship is bound to it. She’s literally riding over the wreckage. “I’m holding on while you’re letting go / It’s a drop give me vertigo / I’m just letting you know.” There’s that sickening freefall of being the one who cares more. She’s dropping and they’re walking away steady, and she’s announcing it like a warning label on her own heart.

The guitars come in snarling, aggressive and mean, doing exactly what guitars should do when you’re this wrecked. Belle’s voice has this edge like she’s been through this before, learned nothing, and strapped back in anyway. The production is pure Garbage influence—guitars with bite, drums that hit your chest, vocals that refuse to be sweet.
The chorus lands hard: “Your stare divine / With bright colored eyes / Like no one’s ever seen me before.” She’s hooked on how this person looks at her, that feeling of being truly seen. It’s intoxicating and dangerous. Then comes “Not where I am / I’m still where we began / Goddamn guess I needed you more / Needed you needed you needed you more.” That admission destroys. She’s stuck at the starting line while they’ve moved the fuck on, and she’s just saying it straight—she needed them more. That repetition drives it home harder each time.
Second verse goes darker. “I tell you what I like about god / You’re the only one who listens to my thoughts.” She’s elevating this person to deity status, making them the only entity that actually hears her. That level of dependence is the kind that fucking ruins you, and Belle knows it but she’s in it anyway. “You always move like the machine we’re on / Just one more stop.” They’re both caught in this mechanical forward motion, relentless like the subway under her feet, pulling them whether they’re ready or not.
Then the bridge kicks in and everything shifts. “Pull me in it’s a slow jam / I’m the only one that’s fucking up your program.” There’s swagger in her voice and venom behind the hurt. She’s not just the heartbroken girl anymore—she’s the chaos, the complication throwing off their neat little system. “Nobody does it the way that we do because they know that they can’t and / We know the way that it works out / But we don’t really care that much right now.” That’s pure defiance, a middle finger to consequences and logic. They both know this shit ends badly and they’re doing it anyway. “Everyone wishes they did it like us / But they know that they can’t.” She’s taking the weakness and wearing it like armor, turning their wreck into something no one else could ever fake.

The song builds to its final moments with intensifying repetition—“Needed you needed you needed you more / Needed you needed you needed you more / Needed you needed you.” It feels obsessive because that’s where her brain is stuck.
Belle Blue is a young independent artist dragging rock into the present, making it matter for people who’ve never heard it done right. The guitars slash through with teeth. The drums pound through your ribs. Her voice demands every inch of space it takes up. She took the vertigo of loving someone who’s already gone and weaponized that shit into something you can blast with the windows down at 2am.
I’ve had this on repeat making questionable decisions. It’s got that leather jacket, smeared eyeliner, walking-into-bad-situations-with-your-eyes-open energy. Belle Blue dares you to feel it as hard as she does and to get on that train knowing exactly where it’s headed and ride it out anyway.
