Bella Rios with mulsh’s ‘Hold On’ Chooses Feeling Over Logic and Your Body Wins Every Time

My therapist keeps asking why I stay in situations that logic says I should leave. Here’s the thing though, when you find someone who makes the chaos feel worth it, who makes gravity stop applying, your brain just shuts the fuck up. I was talking to my friend about this last week over wine that turned into tequila, trying to explain why I keep going back to someone who makes zero sense on paper. She looked at me and said “you’re choosing the feeling over the logic.” Yeah. Exactly. That’s what Bella Rios and electronic producer mulsh capture on ‘Hold On,’ this dance-pop collaboration that gets what it feels like when you’re so gone for someone that the world could be ending and you’d still be holding onto them. Everything’s crumbling around you and you’re thinking “fuck it, let’s see where this goes.”

The track opens with Bella singing “Lost in this moment / Keep me from losing my own feet” and yeah, when he’s got you so dizzy you forget how to stand upright. That’s the fucking energy. The production here is glitchy synths that buzz in all the right places and a bassline that pulses through your whole body. mulsh (that’s Colin Mulshine if you’re keeping track) knows exactly how to frame Bella’s voice. The beat gets stuck in your head immediately while Bella’s doing this sultry, emotional thing with her delivery that pulls you in close.

Then she hits you with “Foundations are crumbling / Keep me from drowning in the heat.” Everything’s falling apart but as long as he’s holding you who cares about structural integrity? The way Bella shifts between intimate verses and explosive hooks is what makes this whole thing work. Her vocal range is insane. You can hear her flexing different parts of her voice and it never feels forced or like she’s showing off just to show off. She’s just that good.

Here’s where the song gets its power. “There’s no escaping / Lucky we’re our own galaxy / We won’t let them spoil it / All that they know is feigned ecstasy.” You two exist in a bubble and honestly? Everyone else can fuck off. Everyone’s faking it. You two? Actually feeling it. That’s the difference. The production is clean as hell and gives Bella exactly what she needs to do her thing. mulsh said “This instrumental originally started as a remix idea for a Tim Legend song called ‘Telescope,’ but when I finished the beat, I realized it needed a female vocalist, I immediately thought of Bella and she crushed it!” He was inspired by classic warm analog sounds and kept it simple. “This instrumental doesn’t have too many components – simplicity is bliss – especially with such a talented vocalist.”

The pre-chorus is pure vulnerability. “If we fall / Just hold on to me.” The trust fall of relationships but make it sexy and terrifying. Then Bella absolutely takes flight on the hook with “I’m chasing, it’s fading, a losing game / But our fire, it’s raging, can’t be tamed.” Logic says quit. Your body says keep going. Your body wins every fucking time. That’s the whole goddamn song right there. You know it doesn’t make sense. You know you’re probably gonna get wrecked. You’re doing it anyway because what you have feels too real to walk away from.

OK, straight talk. This Chicago-born Nashville-based powerhouse has been at this since she was five years old, learning classical piano while her parents blasted Queen, Fleetwood Mac, and Aerosmith through the house. Add in some Adele, P!nk, and Lady Gaga to that childhood soundtrack and you get exactly the kind of fearless, no-bullshit energy Bella brings to her music today. She’s giving Olivia Rodrigo meets Reneé Rapp vibes with the clever wordplay and the way she delivers every line like she means it.

What makes Bella so fucking good is how real she gets with her lyrics. She writes about falling stupidly in love, the soul-crushing aftermath of heartbreak, and the wild rollercoaster of mental health shit we’re all dealing with. Her songs hit that sweet spot where you feel seen and you also can’t help screaming along. She’s not trying to be deep or mysterious about it. She’s just telling you exactly what happened and making it catchy as hell while she does it.

The bridge takes it to another level. “Dark waves come crashing / Stars are falling out of the sky.” The world’s ending and you’re both here for it. Then comes “Chaos surrounds us / Gravity fades / We’re out of time.” Physics doesn’t apply when you’re this far gone. The way Bella builds the intensity here, going from those sultry verses to this explosive moment where everything’s falling apart and you’re still choosing each other? That’s the whole point. This is what happens when a talented vocalist meets a producer who knows exactly how to frame her.

“ Swept up, I’m stolen / I see forever in your eyes / Not scared to show it / Right on the edge our hearts collide. ” He looked at you and suddenly you’re planning hypothetical children. Terrifying. Hot. Fuck playing it cool. You’re all in and you’re not apologizing for it. Bella’s vocal delivery here is so confident, so unafraid. She’s not hedging. She’s not protecting herself. She’s going there and she’s taking you with her.

I’m still in that situation my therapist thinks I should leave. Still choosing the feeling over the logic. Still holding on when everything says let go. My friend texted me yesterday asking if I’d figured it out yet. I sent her this song. She wrote back “oh so you’re fucked.” Yeah. Exactly. Sometimes you find someone who makes you forget how to stand upright and who creates a whole galaxy with you while everything else crumbles. You’re swept up and see forever in their eyes. You know you’re on the edge. You know your hearts are colliding. You hold on anyway.
